BUILD YOUR JL AUDIO BASS SYSTEMMatch an amplifier to your 12TW3-D4Choose one subwoofer or two identical subs.
Each 12TW3-D4 has two 4-ohm voice coils and handles 400 W continuous. Start with the number of subs, then match the amplifier to the final wired load.
One 12TW3-D4 · 2-ohm load
Wire both 4-ohm coils in parallel for a 2-ohm final load. Use both coils.
Two identical 12TW3-D4 subs · 4-ohm load
Wire each sub's coils in series (8 Ω per sub), then wire the two subs in parallel for a 4-ohm final load.
Both amplifiers below have the same rated power at this load. Compare dimensions, features and price; the RD is not a power upgrade for this wiring arrangement.
Wiring matters: do not wire both subs and all four coils in parallel to 1 Ω with these amplifiers. Their 1,000 W rating is at 2 Ω, not this 4 Ω configuration.
Amplifier ratings shown are at 14.4 V; available output depends on operating conditions. Match your enclosure to the exact subwoofer, check mounting space and vehicle signal integration, and have gain and filters set for the finished system. Amplifier, enclosure and installation wiring are separate purchases. These paths apply to raw TW3-D4 drivers, not prewired loaded enclosures or D8 models.

12TW3-D4 12-inch Subwoofer (400 W, dual 4 Ω voice coils)
Building on the core technology of our TW5 thin-line subwoofers, the TW3’s deliver a powerful combination of shallow mounting depth and excursion capability. In fact, they are capable of greater excursion than the W3v3’s.
To allow this remarkable feat to be achieved, JL Audio’s patented thin-line woofer technology compresses the architecture of the TW3’s using a “concentric tube” structure built into the injection-molded cone body. This structure supports the voice coil and a full annular spider, while permitting the placement of the large motor structure further forward in the speaker than with conventional designs.
TW3’s are optimized for small enclosures and offer our tab-ear mounting design to maximize cone area within their mounting footprints. We know you’re going to love working with these amazing Subwoofers.
